Historically, the “pre-tied(ready-made) type” has existed since the late 19th century, when bow ties first became popular, as has the “self tie type”. Both have coexisted for a long time, but the “pre-tied type” is more common today.

The "Modern butterfly" is also called the "Semi-butterfly". It is considered to be a moderately curved butterfly bow tie compared to the "Classic butterfly" bow tie.
