Historically, the “pre-tied(ready-made) type” has existed since the late 19th century, when bow ties first became popular, as has the “self tie type”. Both have coexisted for a long time, but the “pre-tied type” is more common today.

The butterfly shape is just one of many bow tie shapes and the “wide butterfly” is an even larger shape than the “classic butterfly”. It can be seen in historical photographs of gentlemen in the early 1900s at the latest.

This was followed by the late 1960s in Europe and the U.S., when suits with wide lapels, ties over 10 cm wide, and other unique and gorgeous styles became popular, which seems to have influenced the fashion of the 1970s.
